Why dont some of the religious accept science as a tool for discovery?

Now day's people with Epilepsy ,Turrets syndrome and Schizophrenia are treated for their conditions but in the past they were thought to be Possessed and demonised in some fashion and were burnt at the stake. This is one way science has changed our thought patterns with thousands of other instances as well. Another question would be Why do people still accept the bronze age history when discovery shows different?
