Why shouldn't we just shut down every space program out there?

From my opinion, the NASA space program is looking for another planet that has more resources than earth has at the present time because right now the gas prices are rising at an increasingly alarming rate and unless we find a large amount of resources that we had not yet discovered on earth we won't last very long
